Last but not least I also want to let you know that there are some plans to meet with the Palm User Group Berlin at their spot after the event has taken place. All attendees are going to receive a mail from Clements explaning it in more detail today.

Update 2: About the books Palm is giving us for free: I will probably not receive them before the event so I will hand out a paper where you can give me your address and I will just sent every attendee a copy of the book as soon as I receive them.

We also talked about the agenda/programm. I still need to talk about it with some people who are involved but I can tell you this so far:

The event will start around noon (12pm) with some small talks. We base all on the practical use like how to use the SDK on the systems provided and we show a small first hello world. On this matter I can also tell you this: There is going to be a computer for each one with the SDK, Emulator and Editor pre installed. If you want to bring your own system that is fine but don’t ask me how your editor works .

After this first introduction (which should not take longer than two hours imho) we would like to actually DO STUFF(tm). For this we ask for your idea. Do you have a nice idea about a small project we could develop during the day (max 5hours)? The best would be one that covers a lot of aspects of the WebUI (like differnt views, multimedia playback, loading data from other places). If you have one, write it down and prepare what needs to be prepared (do we need to know about some WebOS-API or online webservice api to do that?). In case no one has any idea we have some as a back up.

To be able to do that we also decided that some of us are going to learn about special parts and APIs of WebOS so that we don’t waste time looking up to much stuff. If you are interested into one special part yourself you can also be our expert on that matter, too.

The end of the event should be an open discussion with all people about the different ideas on how to publish our awesome project. It will start with a short introduction on the Palm Store and the procedure you have to do to get your app up and if it takes very long we can just take it into a nice bar. The idea is that we’ve left the building before 7pm and learnt a lot.

Besides the “English Talking Language”-decision we have made two more decisions: 1. We want to make videos of the talks (including some expert talking a bit more about a certain part that is of further interested at the given time) and publish them later online. 2. As we won’t be able to accomplish a full blown up application in the few hours we have we would like to upload the state of our project and give it to the people out there under a “Do whatever you want”-Licence. If we do multiple projects we would like to do the same for all of them.

So far, so good.

On top of this we also looked up the address and I am going to prepare a nice map which you can access from the sidebar in a couple of days. I will also give you some more information about schedule and the “expertises” when I have talked back with all people involved. Expect all these information to be online before the end of the week. But don’t worry, as soon as all data is available I will also sent an email to each one of you.

Damit sind wir das erste (aber hoffentlich nicht letzte) Pre Dev Camp Deutschlands, das bestätigt, dass ein Pre Dev Camp wirklich bei Ihnen statt findet. Zeit zum Feiern! Erzählt es euren Freunden! Und erscheint zahlreich!

Dass es wirklich am 8. August bei uns bei uns statt finden soll, steht um genau zu sein, für uns schon länger fest, aber wir wollten erst sicher gehen, dass die geplanten Räumlichkeiten zu Verfügung stehen und dann kamen noch technische Probleme im Blog hinzu, die mich daran gehindert haben es bekannt zu geben.

Zu den Räumlichkeiten kann ich dann ja auch schon mal sagen, dass wir den großen Computer-Raum der Technischen Universität Berlin für den ganzen 8. August für uns haben werden. An dem Programm planen wir zwar noch, aber bisher peilen wir mittag bis Abend an. Auch suchen wir immer noch nach Menschen, die Interesse haben zu einem irgendwie dazu passenden Thema ein paar Worte zu sagen. Leider muss ich in gleichem Atemzug auch bekannt geben, dass Fee Beyer leider zu dem Zeitpunkt keine Zeit hat und damit der geplante Vortrag zum Thema “Mobil-Markt im Allgemeinen” nicht von ihr gehalten werden kann.

Sobald alle Details fest stehen, werde ich diese natürlich nochmal gesondert bekannt geben. Für Vorschläge, Ideen und Kritik könnt ihr euch aber immer (selbst während meines Urlaubs) direkt an mich wenden. Die Wege dies zu tun sollten hinreichend bekannt sein.

Leider kann ich euch auch heute noch kein Event-Datum liefern, so Leid es mir tut. Aber der Offene Brief an die Commmunity (eng) hat mich inspiriert etwas zu tun. Also möchte ich hiermit offiziell das “Call for papers” eröffnen. Jede/r die/der was zu sagen hat, eine Präsentation machen möchte oder irgendwelche Papiere vorbereiten möchte (ich bin auch offen für jede andere Form der informations Weitergabe) die irgendwie mit dem Palm Pre zu tun haben, lasst es mich wissen (ben punkt kampmann at googlemail punkt com). Ich werde diese dann auf der neuen Seite (über das Menü rechts erreichbar) “Agenda” auflisten. Sobald wir dann einen Termin wissen, werde ich das nochmal mit eben jenen absprechen und finalisieren.

Ich habe in diesem Zuge auch schon mal angefangen eine leichte Menü-Struktur für das Event selbst anzulegen. Falls ihr Vorschläge zum Beispiel für einen Tagungsort habt, lasst es mich (ben punkt kampmann at googlemail punkt com) einfach wissen. Ich freue mich über jede mail.

No, I still can’t say anything about a date but the open letter to the community inspired me take action. So here is what I do: I start the call for papers by now. Deswegen überlegen ursa und meine wenigkeit, ob wir nicht das pre dev camp in berlin zu einem anderen, späteren Zeitpunkt statt finden lassen sollen. Das hängt vor allem davon ab, wann wir wissen, was wir machen können/wollen und wie viel Zeit wir für die organisation dessen brauchen. Tja. Schaut so aus als ob ich hier für Berlin die preDevCamp Organisation übernehmen werde. Deswegen stelle ich mich doch am besten erstmal vor. Mein Name ist Benjamin Kampmann und ich komme aus dem schönen Lipperland in NRW. Die letzten ein-ein-halb Jahre habe ich Barcelona gelebt und gearbeitet. Seit kurzem arbeite ich nun in Berlin (bisher ohne eigene Wohnung ) und von dem Zeitpunkt wo ich die erste Ankündigung vom preDevCamp sah, wollte ich, dass es auch in Berlin statt findet. Leider lies sich niemand finden, der es organisieren wollte, also ist es ja meine Bürgerpflicht auf zu stehen und diesen Job zu übernehmen …

Aber das wird natürlich nichts ohne Dich. Ob als helfende Hand, MitorganisatorIn oder einfach nur Teilnehmer, jede(r) ist willkommen

Hi, my name is Benjamin Kampmann and I am going to host the preDevCamp in Berlin, Germany. I recently move here from Barcelona and since the first second I heard about preDevCamp I wanted it to happen here. But no one stood up to organize it so I consider it my obligation as a (soon) citizen of this great city to host this great event.
